A popular Christmas and New Year’s destination is the Bahamas. Booking reservations in August or September is the best way to insure you get your top choice of hotel or resort.

The Bahamas is made up of over 700 islands and 2,400 cays. It’s also home to some of the most beautiful and unique beaches in the world.

If you are most excited about visiting the beaches, you’ll want to pick which ones you desire to see the most and choose nearby hotels or resorts.

Not sure where you’d like to stay? Too many beaches to choose from? That’s ok. Below you’ll find information on 10 highlighted Bahamian beaches which will help you make your decision.

  1. Gold Rock Beach – Located on the south west coast of Grand Bahama Island. This beach is picture perfect, super secluded and part of the Lucayan National Park. Here you’ll find white sand and incredibly clear water. It’s famous for turning into a large sandbar at low-tide, which is quite a site to see. The water is shallow and great for swimming. You’ll see many sand dollars and starfish as you stroll down the beach. Adventurers will love snorkeling the Gold Rock Reef and exploring Lucayan Caverns. Since the park is so raw and natural, there are no vendors, restaurants or restrooms. So, it’s best to pack your own food and drink and eat at the picnic tables in the park. Also, pack light because you’ll have to walk along a mangrove trail to get to the beach. Gold Rock Beach is untouched beauty at its finest.

  1. Pink Sands Beach – Located on Harbour Island. This beach has over 3 miles of pale pink sand which is created by small, broken pieces of coral and shells of a microorganism called foraminifera, washing up on shore. The color gets pinker when the angle of the sun hits the sand just right. The pink sands almost enhance the turquoise color of the water.  The water is calm and just off shore there’s a coral reef for snorkelers to explore. There is a relaxed, quite vibe here with people strolling the beach or sun bathing on lounge chairs with drinks in hand.

  1. Cape Santa Maria Beach – Located in Long Island. This beach is known for having 4 miles of white powdery sand, palm trees and turquoise water. It’s an enjoyable place to swim and take long walks down the beach and experience the most incredible sunsets. It’s also great for snorkeling, fishing or sailing in the bay. Overall, Cape Santa Maria Beach is a super family friendly and highly hospitable beach to visit.

  1. Pig Beach – Located in Exuma. You know the saying when pigs fly? Well, how about when pigs swim? Yeah, there are famous swimming pigs on this Bahamian beach. The pigs that live on this beach, enter the water and swim up to greet the tour boats that visit them each day. These adorable and impressive animals are rare. It’s thought that they took up residence on the island after a shipwreck. Just a few years ago, they weren’t as popular, but after a documentary was done about them, they became a travel bucket list item for many. Unfortunately, at the end of February a few of the pigs passed away. Many believe they may have been given alcohol by irresponsible tourists. To ensure these wonderful creatures live happy, healthy lives on the island, please make sure you only feed them things you would find in nature, like fruits or vegetables. Always treat them with kindness.

  1. Cable Beach – Located a few miles west of Nassau. This beach is well taken care of and a favorite of the locals. You’ll find over 2 miles of soft sand and crystal clear water and shade which can be sought under one of the many trees that line the beach. It’s very relaxing for walking or sunbathing, but also features plenty of fun water sports and beach activities. There are public restrooms, showers and vendor carts selling refreshments and snacks. If you are interested in seeing some tropical fish, sea turtles, starfish or sting rays, then venture to the eastern end. This beach features fabulous resorts, restaurants, great nightlife, a casino and a golf course. However, due to its popularity and the variety of activities, this beach can become quite crowded.

  1. Cabbage Beach – Located on Paradise Island, near Atlantis. Cabbage beach is continuously voted one of the best beaches in the world and it has been the setting of some famous Hollywood blockbuster movies, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Casino Royale. It’s a great beach for walking, swimming or sunbathing and there are lots of water sports to partake in. Small tiki structures are available to seek shade under, but be prepared to pay and arrive early before the crowd.  One downside to the beach is there are no public restrooms so you might want to plan on having lunch or drinks at one of the sandwich shops, beach bars, restaurants, or hotels. Overall, Cabbage Beach is the place for fun and sun, not to mention it’s incredibly beautiful.

  1. Treasure Cay – Located on Great Abaco Island. Treasure cay is a personal favorite with unforgettable soft, powdery white sand and sparkling light turquoise water. There are water sports, a golf course and tennis courts. The marina hosts fishing tournaments each year so fishing enthusiasts will definitely want to put this on their list of beaches to visit in the Bahamas.

  1. Saddle Cay – Part of the Exumas. You can take a boat from Nassau to Saddle Cay and spend the day. Bring a picnic lunch and snorkeling gear. This island is secluded and untouched so you won’t find any hotels or restaurants here, just pure paradise. Since few people come here, you might get lucky and have it all to yourself. One thing’s for sure, you’ll find it to be incredibly romantic and relaxing.

  1. Stocking Island – Located in the Exumas, it’s just a short water taxi ride from George town. Stocking Island is 4 miles long and has only 10 inhabitants. Despite the size there are a handful of hotels and villas to choose from on the island. Chat  N’ Chill Beach Bar & Grill is a fun place to grab a drink and some dinner or attend the Sunday pig roast. You’ll find pristine crystalline water and soft white sand on this island. It’s a great place for seashell collectors and snorkelers will love visiting Mystery Cave, which is a blue grotto with underwater caves to explore. Many visitors also enjoy petting and feeding the stingrays. This island has a relaxed Caribbean vibe and it does not disappoint.

  1. Cat Island – Located in central Bahamas. Cat Island is a favorite of nature lovers because of its wild looking landscape. The beach is over 50 miles long, yet there is hardly any commercial development except for a few hotels and restaurants. You can reach the island by boat. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Choose to walk the beach, play in the water or seek shade under the casuarina trees while enjoying a picnic lunch. If you want to see some amazing views, hike up to the hermitage stone monastery and chapel on Mt. Alvernia which is the highest point in the Bahamas. Cat Island is a super laid back island with nature trails and unspoiled beauty.

All the beaches mentioned above are spectacular, but no matter where you go in the Bahamas, it’s guaranteed you’ll have a wonderful time and find unprecedented beauty where ever you look.
